About Me

Hi!!
My name is Hilarie, in case you haven't figured out, yet.
I am 22 years young and reside outside of Atlanta, GA.

After I graduated high school, I stumbled upon a lovely blog, Nailside, who I blame for my crazy addiction. I mean, using tape to make these crazy designs?! It blew my mind.
I broke out my only two polishes... Sally Hansen "Black Out" and "Celeb City" and tried a few out tape manis out myself. They weren't complete fails, but they certainly weren't anything pretty. I would get polish everywhere (even my mouth???), my cuticles were crap, my nails were uneven, and I thought taking photos in dim lighting was acceptable.
Three years later after a bump in the road called a job where nail polish isn't allowed, I finally thought I had improved enough to hop into the nail community. I created a new Instagram and Tumblr dedicated to just my nails. Within the first couple weeks I learned so many things about techniques I'd never heard of and proper nail and cuticle care and clean up and how do you people paint your nails so many times in one day and there's so many of you and wait you can make your own polish??? Yeah, I was pretty overwhelmed, but I slowly saw myself making progress. I started using cuticle oils and balms like an addict. I changed the shape of my nails. I started using nail files (I still hate that sound more than anything). I invested in a bottle of acetone and a good cleanup brush. My polish collection grew out of the cosmetic bag, then the cardboard box, then I bought a Helmer, now I'm running out of room in said Helmer.
In August and September of last year, I purchased my first polish making supplies. I did tons of research beforehand, which I totally recommend for anyone who wants to make their own polishes. I launched my line, Living Dead Lacquer, in late September with a six piece Halloween collection. They may not be the best polishes, but I have a lot of fun mixing and experimenting with different color combinations and finishes.

Nails are not the only thing that interest me. Actually, nail art might be one of the only really girly things about me. I love camping, hiking, and geocaching. I've also recently gotten into knife throwing and archery. I'm not very good at either, yet, but it's fun anyway. My hobbies aren't the best things for avoiding broken nails, but I usually keep my claws pretty short to keep that from happening anyway. I have the best boyfriend ever. He supports my crazy obsession and occasionally helps me pick out polishes (usually blues and teals). He even bought me my favorite polishes I've ever used, Pipe Dream Polish's A Night In Vegas Cremes. *swoon* I am a multi-fandom loser (The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, Hunger Games, Supernatural, Marvel, Pokemon...). Halloween is when my powers are at their peak. It's always been my favorite time of the year. My room is decorated with Halloween things, skulls, bats, and mostly black and grey. Oh, and zombies are the best. You might have figured that out already, though (hint: Living Dead Lacquer).
